Safe, Clean Soy Candles For All
With my own struggles with fragrance sensitivities and allergies, I found myself unable to enjoy candles in my home. Something about the flickering light, casting a warm glow and emitting a soft scent, makes any house feel like home.
After years of missing out on cozy scents (enter wet dog smell) and the COVID-19 lockdown, I had time to dive head-first into the world of candle making.
I remember reading study after study, as we spent more time indoors, about the concerns that were coming to light about candles. We were desperate to make the indoors cozy and smell good. A study conducted at South Carolina State University found that there can be adverse effects of paraffin wax candles compared to their soy candle counterparts. Think of those infamous three-wick candles...
Not only does paraffin candle wax emit harmful toxins, but even the fragrance oil does. Commonly released chemicals in fragrance oils are toluene, benzene, and formaldehyde.
A Commitment to Clean From the Very Beginning

With the support of my family and the kind donation of used honey jars, I took to my home office and began the R&D process. I had a newfound respect for not just the art, but also the science behind candles. From fragrance oils to wick size, vessel diameters, and melting pools, I learned all I could to perfect my candles. I ensured that my vessels, down to my wicks, were thoughtfully sourced, simple, and supported other small businesses.
Specifically for the fragrance oils, I spent two years sourcing and hand-blending my own scents for my candles. Of all our senses, I personally find smell to be the most intimate, powerful enough to pull tucked away memories to the forefront of our minds and soothe the itch of nostalgia.
It has been an honor to attend markets across the state, have so many different people smell the Fresh-cut Lilac candles, and share stories of how the scent reminds them of their grandmothers' and mothers' lilac bushes, their childhood, or even their own gardening experiences.
To me, everything about my small business is personal, so why would I sell something I myself wouldn't (and couldn't) trust or enjoy?
The best part of my business is being able to tell stories, share facts, and connect with my customers while standing as a testament to the safety and quality of my own goods.
